Driving Tips for Winter in Wisconsin

  • Never warm up your vehicle in an enclosed area, like a garage. Always open the garage door before you start your vehicle.
  • Be as alert as possible on the road, and try not to drive while fatigued. Accidents are more likely in the winter, so staying alert will help to keep you safe.
  • Get your vehicle’s engine, battery and tires checked out to ensure they are in good shape for the bitter cold months ahead.
  • Consider investing in snow tires to provide the best possible traction on slippery, wet roads.
  • Keep your gas tank half-full at all times so that you avoid gas line freeze up.
  • Avoid using cruise control on wet, slippery roads. Try to always maintain control of your speed and braking.
  • Brake with extra time to account for possible sliding on the road. You should be able to see the tires of the vehicle braked in front of you when you reach a complete stop.
  • Accelerate slower to give your vehicle time to regain traction and avoid sliding or slipping on the roads.
  • Check your heating and defrost systems to make sure they will be able to keep you warm and clar your windows.
  • Schedule a Service Appointment
